Wandering to Titles – Perfect European Start (September) Episode 40

Welcome back to my Football Manager 2020 Wolverhampton Wanderers Story.

Season 4, Episode 40

Our dreaded group of death in the Champions League starts this month with three matches to fit in. A tough run of fixtures including the likes of Milan, Tottenham and Bayern Munich back-to-back will test how robust our squad is.

We’ve had a strong start to the league which see’s us sit in 3rd, while Tottenham have gone unbeaten in 6 and already have a four point gap at this short stage in the season.

An away fixture against them sandwiched in between two very tough Champions League matches is as hard as it gets.

Erling Haaland has started the campaign in fine form and I’m sure we’ll be relying on him a lot this season. We have however been falling short in front of goal, only scoring more than 1 goal once in our first eight matches.

If we are to challenge for a Champions League spot again, we need to be more clinical in front of goal. We need more goals from Haaland’s strike partners, and we need the likes of Fernandes, Neves and Tonali to chip in with more goals.

Wandering to Titles – Season 4 Kicks Off (August) Episode 39

If you’ve missed an episode, why not take a look at my Episode Guide. Here you will find all the episodes of this story all in one place.

Welcome back to my Football Manager 2020 Wolverhampton Wanderers Story.

Season 4, Episode 39

The start of this season see’s us play with the newly updated match engine build. I’m unsure how this will affect my team – we will have to wait and see.

We’ve had a solid pre-season and transfer window. I believe we’ve bought and sold well. It’s been to my surprise that we received no bids for our star players. I was sure the likes of Jota, Neves and Mepham would gather interest from teams.

No doubt it helped that Jota signed a new deal with us, removing his £89m release clause in the progress.

The likes of Kimpembe will be thrown straight into the first team. He has a lot of experience and talent, and I expect him to settle in straight away.

We have our first chance of silverware so early on in the season, with a final to be played against Athletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup. We of course are the underdogs, but we are more than capable of lifting the trophy – which would be the first time in the clubs history.

Liverpool are the biggest opponents in the league this month, where we will face them at the back end. I hope we’ve amassed quite a few points by the time we get there – I want a strong start from my team.

Wandering to Titles – Buying World-Class (Pre-Season) Episode 38

If you’ve missed an episode, why not take a look at my Episode Guide. Here you will find all the episodes of this story all in one place.

Welcome back to my Football Manager 2020 Wolverhampton Wanderers Story.

Season 4, Episode 38

Welcome back to Wandering to Titles as we approach my 4th season with Wolves.

Last season we secured a new point tally high with a total of 79 which landed us 4th spot. Champions League is back on the agenda.

We also lifted the Europa League trophy again with a victory over Spurs.

Another long and arduous summer is upon us, where I’m very keen to keep hold of our key players and try to strengthen as we go.

Our centre back position is a key area where I want to strengthen, so I will be on the lookout for players that could take us to the next step. World-class is what I’m looking for. Is there any value in the market?

I will continue to pursue young English talent (as always), but that will always be hard to come by with every team in the top flight doing the exact same.

Wandering to Titles – Season 3 Review, Episode 37

If you’ve missed an episode, why not take a look at my Episode Guide. Here you will find all the episodes of this story all in one place.

Welcome back to my Football Manager 2020 Wolverhampton Wanderers Story.

Season 3, Episode 37

Season 3 is finally wrapped up after an enthralling end which saw us pip Man Utd to 4th in the Premier League and lift the Europa League for the 2nd time in three seasons.

It was our form from March onwards that gave us a fighting chance to take 4th spot. I didn’t want to end up 5th for a 3rd time in a row in the league so 4th was quite a big priority for me personally.

A huge month for the club as we battle for 4th, try to reach yet another Europa League final and win it (again), and also try to win our first FA Cup trophy since 1960.

As mentioned in the previous episode, the squad’s morale is at an all-time high. Our incredible win streak just goes to show what this team is capable of.

A must win for us as we sit 2 points behind United in 4th, but we have a game in hand. Southampton are 5 points adrift of safety with 3 games to go, so they will be fighting until the end.

Welcome back to my Football Manager 2020 Wolverhampton Wanderers Story.

Season 3, Episode 35

With our late surge of form, we’ve given ourselves a chance at finishing in the top 4.

We sit 5 points adrift with 8 games to go. It is doable, as long as we believe. We’re in hot scoring form at the moment, more so than any other time in managerial career. Thirteen goals in the last two matches saw surge into the Quarter Final of the Europa League and the FA Cup Semi Final.

We have an incredible chance to come away with two trophies this season, but we have to continue to play as a unit. Stick to the game plan.

Leeds United (15th) vs Wolves (5th)
2/4/2022 Premier League

We travel to Leeds in our first game of the monster April month. This Leeds side employ two ex Wolves players – Rafa Mir and Helder Costa.

Welcome back to my Football Manager 2020 Wolverhampton Wanderers Story.

Season 3, Episode 34

After a month where we dropped points in the league, we find ourselves 4 points adrift of 4th, with 10 games to go. We’re in a situation where we really can’t afford to drop any more.

Manchester United, Spurs and Liverpool are still to come in those 10 matches, so if we’re to get wins out of them, something special with have to happen.

March also see’s us return to the Europa League. Since we bypassed the 1st knockout round due to finishing 1st in the group, we return to the competition for the first time since December.

Reading vs Wolves
1/3/2022 FA Cup 5th Round

We start the month we three away ties. The perfect time to try to test out new formation tweaks and make away defeats a thing of the past.

A struggling Reading side were up first. A usual for the domestic cups, slight rotation will be made. Sean Longstaff makes a rare start for me.

A much improved January saw us back in 4th. The Man City loss at the end of the month let them catch up with us, but we cannot dwell on it.

I’m happy with the improvement and I hope it continues.

New boys Audero and Lima have been great while Bella-Kotchap will continue to develop as I try to give him minutes here and there.

Wandering to Titles – A Month of Difficulty (December) Episode 31

If you’ve missed an episode, why not take a look at my Episode Guide. Here you will find all the episodes of this story all in one place.

Welcome back to my Football Manager 2020 Wolverhampton Wanderers Story.

Season 3, Episode 31

We almost had a perfect month in October but we were hit by a bizarre loss to a struggling Stoke side.

We’re about to embark on the holiday season of our campaign. These two months will be brutal in terms of fixture congestion, and depending on how we do, it could make or break our season.

Joint 2nd in the table is where we stand. We’ve come a long way in 2 and a half years and I hope we continue our trajectory upwards. Haaland has been in fine form since he joined us in the summer and we will no doubt be heavily reliant on his goals if we are to maintain our position.

We face some of the league’s ‘big boys’ this month – the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea (twice). We’ve proven (against Liverpool) that we can beat the best – it’s now up to us to show consistency within these matches.
