The Arsenal Rebuild – Starting to Gel? (September Update)

Missed the start of this save? Read my Squad Report and how I intend to fill in Arsenals missing links.

September was a busy period. We had 6 games to play, two of which were in the Champions League. The first half of the month was much easier than the 2nd, which is why we wanted to rotate our side.

We had routine wins against West Ham, Legia and West Brom. No major concerns. Stefan Bell, our new German centre back who has been playing due to the injury to is national team-mate Mustafi, managed to grab his 2nd goal in two games. Not bad from the 6’4 man. Unfortunately, he also conceded his 2nd penalty in two games – luckily for us, Cech made the save from a Mark Noble shot.

Rotation vs Strength

Even though we were playing our rivals Chelsea in the EFL Cup, I just had to rotate. We the likes of Manchester United and Benfica looming on us in the coming days, changes had to be made.

Our only first XI players in this line-up were Ramsey, Xhaka, Koscielny and Cech (Xhaka was also coming back from a hernia injury). Chelsea, however, played a very strong team, which I presume due to the fact they do not have as tight a schedule as we do – but hey, at least we can say we’re in the Champions League, right?

Spanish Youth

Bellerin had a stellar month, attacking the right-side of the pitch with gusto. I fully expect more of the same in the coming months. So far he’s yet to register an assist in the league, but overall, I’m very happy with the way he’s playing.

Ratings Are On The Up

Our squad as a whole has been playing well. We have a total of 12 players with an average rating of 7.10 or above, which I’m really pleased about.

Surprisingly, Stefan Bell is at the top of the list. Statistically, he has been my best player, even though he has already given away two penalties. Mustafi is back in training now after his injury, and on paper, Mustafi is a far better centre back. If Bell continues, it may be hard to drop him.

Best of the Best

When I arrived at Arsenal, the staffing issue was a mess. We were bang average across the board. But after a busy summer, I brought in no less than 15 new staff members, ranging from Under 18s Data Analyst’s to first team coaches.

I’ve always thought that we will only be as good as our backroom staff, so making sure that this is in order will help us do what we need to do on the pitch.

Optimistic To Say The Least

While the league table doesn’t look great for reading now, I am optimistic. It’s very early days. In 6 games, we’ve already played the likes of Chelsea, Man United and Liverpool. Watford and Bournmouth who are sitting 3rd and 4th haven’t even faced one of the bigger teams yet.

What October Has In Store For Us

A fairly tough start to the campaign continues as we face Man City and Spurs in the league. Ain’t no rest for the wicked, as they say.

Sandwiched in-between those two games is an away trip to Olympiakos. The fixture gods have not been kind to us. But we must press forward. We have to squad to compete with the very best.
